Coega SEZ set to be a new African automotive hub

With construction well on its way in zone one of the Coega SEZ BAIC site, the vehicle plant is being positioned as a new automotive hub on the continent.

About the hub:

  • Home to two original equipment manufacturers (OEM) namely: First Automotive Works (FAW) and Beijing Automotive Industry Holding Co (BAIC) both from China having invested R1bn and R11bn in 2012 and 2016 respectively.
  • Served by the Deepwater Port of Ngqura and Port Elizabeth Harbour with full linkages to Africa, Asia Pacific, North and South America and the EU.
  • Home to over 40 companies in the automotive, logistics, od processing, chemical, metals and service sectors.
  • Within a 30km radius from Isuzu (OEM), Volkswagen (OEM), and Ford (OEM) – all producing for the domestic and export markets.
  • Within a 30km radius from at least 150 component manufacturers ranging from leather, plastic, and vinyl to engines, pressed metal parts, seats and seat systems, and much more.
