Rowelna Venter, who graduated top of her class, will start working in her new position next month in preparation for the World Cup, and among other things will be responsible for heading media relations and administrative duties.
Venter, 24, who grew up in Fort Beaufort, will be assigned to the post for 10 months and views it as a great opportunity.
“I am very honoured to have got the position. I know it's going to be challenging. It's not an easy task and I have to adapt to the change of moving to Johannesburg, but I'm sure I'll adapt quickly.”
She graduated with a diploma in sport management last year and then went on to do a new course, FIFA/Cies at NMMU.
“It's a course that comprises a lot of sport management subjects like sport marketing, sport laws and sport finance and it actually enables you to run a whole sports organisation. It was fun and very practical, as I met a lot of people with a lot of experience that I learnt a lot from.”
Venter, who also has a degree in drama, started to realise her career direction while still at school. “I did sport at school, and none of my friends participated in sport, so I have always wanted people to get excited about sport and see how much fun it can be and how much it can teach you.”
Venter finished at the top of her class with an average of 84% and has been a model student in all aspects.
In the past three years she has done about 2000 hours of community service in relation to her studies, including working at events like Ironman.
