The PM heads a delegation of ministers and business leaders from Cameroon who plan to hold extensive talks with international investors and business partners during the two-day forum.
The forum will also be addressed by ministers from Rwanda, Zambia, Namibia, Cameroon and newly appointed Hon. Stephen O'Brien MP, parliamentary under secretary of state, DFID, UK. Business Leaders from the UK, South Africa, Rwanda, Kenya, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Israel, Canada, Uganda, Nigeria, Tanzania, Australia and the US will also address the forum.
A key highlight of the Africa Business Forum is the 3rd Annual CBC African Business Awards, organised in collaboration with Africa Business magazine. The awards, held at Grosvenor House on the evening of 21 June, celebrates African business leadership and innovation by showcasing it to the world.
The central theme of the 2010 forum is 'Africa: Success stories and new partnerships'. In 2010, over 15 African countries celebrate their 50th anniversaries of independence and the World Cup has brought the world to South Africa. At the same time, several of Africa's most persistent challenges remain to be addressed, including the infrastructure deficit.
Countries have been affected by the international financial crisis, but many have weathered the storm better than expected. New investment is being attracted by oil and gas finds, telecommunications, as well as revived interest in the untapped potential of agriculture development.
The forum will address how business and government can best design a sustainable growth strategy for Africa in the new global economic environment. It will focus on the practical partnerships which business is taking on job creation, enterprise, trade, investment and good governance across the continent, and discuss how we can strengthen capital flows and trade. The results of the forum will be communicated to the G8.
